MODO DI BERE WHAT WE MAKE‍ ‍WHO WE ARE‍ ‍

an award-winning media project about local culture through drinks and dialect

Wine writer Rose Thomas Bannister was interviewing Italian farmers when she realized that Italy has as many local “dialects” as it has local grapes.

She decided to extend the concept of terroir—a wine’s sense of place—to include the local language.

Modo di Bere Podcast, Magazine and Travel Show investigate the connections between biodiversity and linguistic variation, in Italy and beyond, through local drinks and local sayings.

“Modo di bere,” way of drinking, is a pun on the Italian words for a saying, “modo di dire,” way of saying.

“Bannister tells stories about wine through an artful, almost lyrical lens.”

—Wine Enthusiast Magazine

“ugh I love your page always and seeing my culture being talked about and platformed is amazing!!!”

—Mila from TikTok

“Smart, funny, and endlessly curious.”

—Michaele Weissman, author, “The Rye Bread Marriage" and “God in a Cup”
